About Sarah
Writing Life
I write and speak to encourage and equip others to enjoy life to the max. I’m writing children’s books and gift books. I’ll start a blog soon, too. I love being in a wonderful world of communication, using both familiar and new technologies to reach out to people.
Early Years
I’ve always enjoyed reading and learning lots of things like science, history, and biography. In the 4th grade, our teacher had us write an autobiography. From that assignment, I learned writing skills, but I also discovered that I was a creative writer. I liked that.
High School
When I was a high school freshman planning my next year’s schedule, a cute sophomore guy asked me what I was going to take. Then he advised, “You should take speech and drama! It’s fun.” and so I did, finding another love…the class, not the guy, though he was cute.
College and Beyond
In college, I started to major in chemistry, but in my first semester I bumped into a wall, “The Vector Space Theory of Matter.” A vital concept, to be sure, but it was theoretical and didn’t seem relevant to me. So I switched to nutrition, applying chemistry to life, and added a second major in education because I love to teach. I began a career in food service and nutrition, working in great jobs using my talents in organizing, writing, and staff training.
Family Life
Years later, I left that career to be home with my children. I mothered, volunteered, home schooled, and sometimes worked part-time. Those years were rich and satisfying, joyful and challenging.
As my children left home, I wanted new opportunities to learn and grow. I studied writing and speaking again, investigating the publishing industry, looking for ways to share things I’ve learned. I’ve had articles published in Campus Life, The Campus Life Guide to Christian Colleges and Universities, The Christian College Guide, and Early Stages by Focus on the Family. In 2007, I taught at the Southern Indiana Writers’ Conference.
My husband, David, and I live in Bartlett, Il, a lovely suburb of Chicago. We love to visit our children, Kathryn and Brian, and son-in-law J. G., in Nashville, Tennessee.
Future
Everyone has dreams. Everyone has potential. Everyone should enjoy life to the max. I have that in mind, whether I’m writing fun stories for kids or practical how-to articles for parents. I encourage others to reach their dreams, to achieve all that God has for them in life.
